What Makes Orient Holidays Different: Over 60 Years of Planning Holidays from the UAE
Most travel agencies describe themselves as the best. They use the same words — experienced, trusted, professional, customer-first — and they mean them, mostly. The problem is that the words are too easy to say and too hard to verify without a direct comparison.
This piece attempts something different. It explains specifically what Orient Holidays does, how we do it, and why the combination of six decades of operation, direct supplier relationships, and destination knowledge produces a different experience from booking online or through a newer agency. Not because we claim it — because we can explain the mechanism.
Founded in 1963: What Six Decades Actually Means
Orient Travel LLC was established in Dubai in 1963. That was 11 years before the UAE itself was founded. We have been planning holidays for residents of this country since before it was a country.
This longevity is not primarily a marketing claim. It is the evidence of a specific thing: we have survived multiple economic cycles, two Gulf Wars, the 2008 financial crisis, and a global pandemic that shut the travel industry for two years. Agencies that are not built on genuine service, sound finances, and real client relationships do not survive these things. Many don’t.
What sixty years of operation produces in practical terms:
Supplier relationships built across generations. Our relationships with hotels, resorts, and airlines in key destinations have been active for decades. Some of the Maldives resorts we partner with have worked with us since before their current management teams were born. These relationships produce rates, room categories, and access that newer agencies — however good — cannot yet have built.
A reputation that clients check. When UAE residents ask friends and colleagues for travel agent recommendations, Orient Holidays is one of the names consistently mentioned. This is not from marketing. It is from sixty years of repeat clients, family referrals, and the compound effect of a large proportion of our bookings coming from people who have travelled with us before.
Institutional knowledge that doesn’t reset. Every year that passes adds to what we know — which resorts have declined, which have improved, which new destinations are genuinely ready for the UAE market and which are not. This knowledge is accumulated, not googled.
We Know the Destinations We Recommend
There is a significant difference between an agent who knows a destination from a brochure and one who has been there. Brochure knowledge produces accurate descriptions of what a property claims about itself. Direct knowledge produces understanding of what the property is actually like — the difference between the photographs and the reality, the room categories that deliver and those that don’t, the season in which the destination is at its finest.
At Orient Holidays, our consultants have personal knowledge of the destinations they recommend — gained through property visits, familiarity with the routes, and the accumulated feedback of thousands of clients whose experiences we have monitored.
This is what destination knowledge produces in practice:
We know which Maldives overwater villas at a specific resort face the sunrise and which face the open ocean — and which matters more for your specific purposes. We know which Florence hotel is walking distance to the Uffizi in the right direction (through the Oltrarno, not through the tourist circuit). We know which Morocco riad has a genuine courtyard experience and which has a courtyard that photographs well but is actually a small tiled corridor.
None of this is available on Booking.com. None of it is in the reviews. It comes from having placed enough clients in enough properties to know the difference between the description and the experience.
Our Relationships Produce Results You Cannot Get Directly
This is the most concrete advantage we offer — and the one that most consistently surprises clients who have previously booked directly.
Orient Holidays holds preferred partner status with some of the world’s leading hotel groups — including Four Seasons, Marriott, Hilton, and a number of independent luxury hotel collections. This preferred partner status means that clients who book through us receive inclusions that are not available on the hotel’s own website:
- Room upgrade consideration — confirmed priority (not “subject to availability” wishful thinking) for the next room category above what was booked
- Complimentary breakfast — for the duration of the stay, even when the booked rate is room-only
- Resort credit — typically USD 100 per room per stay, to be spent on dining, spa, or activities
- Early check-in and late check-out — when available; particularly valuable for families with young children arriving after a long flight
- Special occasion arrangements — for honeymoons, anniversaries, and milestone birthdays, specific room preparation, flowers, and welcome amenities
The total value of these inclusions regularly exceeds AED 1,000–2,000 per stay. In many cases it exceeds any difference between our rate and the hotel’s direct rate. The client who books with us often pays the same or less than booking direct — and receives substantially more.
We Handle the Complexity That Others Leave to You
Holiday planning for UAE residents is more complex than for most markets. Multi-passport families with different visa requirements. School holiday windows that are partly fixed by the government and partly school-specific. Public holidays that shift annually based on moon sightings. Children’s documentation requirements. Health certificate needs for African destinations. Halal dietary requirements at properties not accustomed to the Gulf market.
These complexities don’t disappear when you book online — they become your problem to manage. At Orient Holidays, they become our problem to anticipate and resolve before they affect your trip.
Specifically:
Visa management: Before we finalise any booking, we check the visa requirements for every passport nationality in your group against your destination. We advise on the correct consulate, the documentation required, and the realistic processing timeline. We flag problems before they become crises.
Documentation: We confirm what children’s documentation is needed for your specific itinerary — birth certificates, parental consent letters, school confirmations. We tell you what the airline will ask for and what the destination country may request.
Seasonal accuracy: We don’t recommend Bali’s south coast in October if you want beach. We don’t recommend Marrakech in August if you want a comfortable medina experience. We tell you what the destination is actually like in your travel window — not what it is like in the best photographs.
Itinerary integrity: We build itineraries that work as assembled — where transfers are realistic, where the domestic connection in Japan has enough buffer, where the seaplane timing in the Maldives fits around your checkout and inbound flight, where the Cappadocia balloon is booked before the valley hike so you’re not awake at 4am after a full day on foot.
We Are Here When Things Go Wrong
No travel company can guarantee that nothing will go wrong. Flights are cancelled. Hotels overbook. Transfers don’t arrive. Medical situations occur. Natural events disrupt plans.
What a good travel agency can guarantee is that when things go wrong, you are not managing them alone.
When you book independently and your hotel is overbooked at 11pm in Marrakech, you are on the phone to a front desk who speaks limited English and has no particular incentive to help you. When you book through Orient Holidays, you call us. We have a relationship with the hotel. We have dealt with this situation before. We find a solution — sometimes a better hotel at their expense, sometimes a room that mysteriously materialises. We manage the outcome.
This is not a hypothetical benefit. UAE residents who have experienced travel problems in both contexts — having booked independently and having booked through an agency — consistently describe the difference as profound. The safety net, which feels theoretical before the trip, becomes the most valuable thing we provide when it is needed.
We Are Independent and We Work for You
Orient Holidays is not owned by an airline, a hotel group, or an online platform. We are an independent travel agency, which means our recommendation to you is based on what is right for your trip — not on what earns us the highest commission from a particular supplier.
This independence matters in practice. An agency that is a subsidiary of an airline has structural incentives to recommend that airline’s routes, even when a competitor flies the same route better or cheaper. An agency with a preferred hotel group has incentives to recommend properties within that group, even when the best hotel for your needs is outside it.
Our recommendations are based on our knowledge of the destination and our understanding of what you need. Nothing else.
We Have Served Every Kind of UAE Traveller
Over sixty years, we have planned holidays for UAE residents across every conceivable travel configuration:
Families — from first-time family holidays with infants to multi-generational group trips with grandparents and fifteen family members across three generations.
Honeymooners — thousands of couples whose first holiday together as a married couple we have planned — from budget newlyweds to ultra-luxury Indian Ocean escapes.
Corporate travellers — business travel and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Events) across the full spectrum of the UAE corporate market.
Adventure travellers — safaris in Kenya, trekking in Nepal, diving expeditions in the Maldives, ski holidays in the Dolomites.
Cultural travellers — Japan circuits, Morocco heritage tours, Silk Road expeditions, European art capitals.
Solo travellers — UAE residents travelling alone who want the security of expert planning and a point of contact if something goes wrong.
This breadth of experience means that whatever your situation — whatever the composition of your group, whatever the complexity of your visa situation, whatever the specific requirements that make your holiday different from the average — we have almost certainly handled it before.
What We Ask of You
We ask three things from clients who choose to plan their holiday with us:
Tell us what you actually want, not what you think you should want. The best advice we can give is specific to your genuine needs. If you need rest, tell us. If you need stimulation. If you want the Maldives because you’ve always wanted it, or because you think you should want it, those are different conversations.
Give us enough time to do it properly. A last-minute Maldives booking for peak Christmas week is not something we can improve much. A Maldives booking made in September for December, with enough lead time to secure the right villa and the right inclusions, is something we can make genuinely excellent.
Tell us when something isn’t right. If a hotel we recommended didn’t deliver what we described, we want to know. Our knowledge of each property is improved by client feedback. And in the immediate term — if something goes wrong during your trip — call us. That is what we are there for.
A Note on the UAE Market
The UAE travel market is unlike any other in the world. The density of nationalities, the mix of incomes, the multi-passport families, the overlap of Islamic cultural preferences with international luxury travel norms, the particular relationship between UAE residents and the public holiday calendar, the summer exodus pattern, the Eid Al Adha demand spike — none of this is exactly replicated anywhere else.
We have operated in this market, and only this market, for sixty years. The knowledge that produces is specific to the UAE resident traveller. We are not a global agency applying global templates to a UAE context. We are a UAE agency whose entire knowledge base is shaped by the particular requirements of the people who live here.
