Best Time to Travel: Month-by-Month Guide for UAE Holidaymakers (2026)

The best time to travel from the UAE depends on three things: where you’re going, when UAE school holidays fall, and what kind of weather you want at your destination. This guide answers the question for every month of the year — covering the top destinations that peak in that month, the UAE holidays that create travel windows, and what to expect on the ground.

When Is the Best Time to Travel from the UAE?

There is no single best time. The UAE’s year-round warm climate means you can fly out any month. What changes is the destination sweet spot. The UAE school calendar and public holidays create windows when travel demand surges — and when booking ahead becomes essential.

The two peak travel windows from UAE are:

  1. Summer break (late June – August) — long school holiday, hot UAE weather drives demand for cooler destinations
  2. Eid Al Adha (June/July, moon-dependent) — 4–5 day public holiday, the most popular short-break window of the year

The best-value travel windows are:

  • January–February (post-New Year, pre-spring break)
  • October–November (post-summer, pre-winter peak)

January: Best for Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia

Top destinations: Maldives, Bali, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mauritius

January is peak season across the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia — dry, sunny, and warm. The Maldives in January has its finest weather: clear skies, calm lagoons, and excellent snorkelling visibility. Bali’s dry season is in full swing. Thailand’s Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi) is at its most beautiful.

UAE context: January follows the winter school break and is a quieter travel month from the UAE — good availability and reasonable prices compared to December peak.

Also good in January: Jordan (Petra and Wadi Rum are cool and clear), Kenya (Amboseli for Kilimanjaro views and calving season), South Africa (Cape Town summer).

Avoid in January: UK and Northern Europe (cold, grey, limited daylight).

February: Indian Ocean Peak + European Escape

Top destinations: Maldives, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Dubai beach (incoming), Morocco

February is the peak of the Indian Ocean season. Maldives, Seychelles, and Mauritius are all at their finest — the dry season is established, water visibility is excellent, and resort occupancy is high.

Valentine’s Day (14 February) is one of the busiest travel windows from the UAE. Maldives overwater villas and Bali pool villas book out well in advance for the Valentine’s week. If you’re planning a romantic February trip, book in November or December.

Morocco (Marrakech, Fes, the Atlas Mountains) is excellent in February — cool but pleasant, very few crowds at major sites, and the Atlas Mountains may have snow.

European city breaks start working in February — Lisbon, Porto, Seville and Barcelona are mild and uncrowded.

UAE school context: No school break in February. Mid-week travel is easier; weekends are popular for short breaks.

March: Spring Break Season — Book Early

Top destinations: Georgia, Turkey, Jordan, Bali, Portugal, Japan (cherry blossom begins)

UAE spring school break falls in late March to mid-April (varies by school). This is one of the two most popular travel windows of the year from the UAE — second only to the Eid holidays.

Georgia in March is excellent — cool mornings, green valleys beginning, Tbilisi at its most atmospheric. Turkey (Istanbul and Cappadocia) is ideal — cherry blossoms in Istanbul parks, manageable temperatures, and far fewer tourists than summer.

Japan’s cherry blossom season begins in late March in Tokyo and Kyoto — one of the world’s most sought-after travel experiences. Book 4–6 months ahead for cherry blossom travel.

Portugal (Lisbon, Porto, Algarve) is excellent in March — warm (18–22°C), flowers in bloom, low crowds.

Book spring break flights and hotels by December–January for popular destinations.

April: Spring Break Continues + Best European Month

Top destinations: Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Japan, UK, Morocco

April is one of the finest months for European travel from the UAE. The Mediterranean coast (Amalfi, Santorini, Dubrovnik) is warm (18–24°C), uncrowded, and beautifully lit. Italy and Greece in April are a fraction of their summer prices and visitor numbers.

Japan (cherry blossom peaks in early April in Kyoto and extends to late April in northern Japan) is at its most spectacular.

UAE school spring break typically covers late March to mid-April. April travel is accordingly in high demand — prices reflect this.

Eid Al Fitr sometimes falls in April (moon-dependent — varies by 10–11 days annually). When it does, it creates a 4–5 day window that UAE residents overwhelmingly use for travel. Check the Islamic calendar for your travel year.

May: Europe’s Best Month — Before the Crowds

Top destinations: UK, France, Italy, Greece, Santorini, Croatia, Morocco, Japan

May is arguably the finest month to visit Europe from the UAE. The gardens are in bloom (Chelsea Flower Show in London, lavender beginning in Provence, wildflowers in the Greek islands), temperatures are ideal (18–25°C across the Mediterranean), and tourist crowds are a fraction of July–August.

The Amalfi Coast in May is extraordinary — warm enough to swim, quiet enough to find parking in Positano, and the terraced lemon groves are heavy with fruit.

UK in May is excellent — long days, London’s Royal Parks in full bloom, Chelsea Flower Show (late May), and hotel prices below summer peak.

UAE context: No school holiday in May (outside spring break). Good mid-week availability. Eid Al Fitr sometimes falls in May — check for your year.

June: Salalah, Maldives Low Season, Eid Travel Peak

Top destinations: Salalah (Oman), Maldives (low season begins), UK, Switzerland, Georgia

June is the Eid Al Adha month in many years (moon-dependent). When Eid Al Adha falls in June, it creates the UAE’s most popular long-weekend travel window — flights and hotels book out months ahead.

Salalah, Oman enters its Khareef (monsoon) season in June — green hillsides, cool temperatures (22–28°C), waterfalls, and a remarkable contrast to the rest of the Gulf. For UAE residents, Salalah in the Khareef is the most accessible “green escape” available without a long-haul flight.

Maldives low season begins in May/June — prices drop 25–40% from dry season rates. Weather is warmer and occasionally overcast, but the experience remains excellent.

UK and Switzerland in June are at their finest — long days, warm temperatures, full event calendars (Wimbledon, Royal Ascot in June, Edinburgh summer programme beginning).

July: Summer Break Begins — Europe and Mountains

Top destinations: UK, France, Switzerland, Georgia, Salalah, Scandinavia, Canada

Late June to August is the UAE’s main summer school break — the longest holiday window of the year. UAE summer (40–48°C) drives enormous demand for cooler destinations.

UK and Europe absorb the largest volume of UAE summer travellers. London hotel prices in July–August are at annual peaks. Book 4–6 months ahead.

Switzerland in July is extraordinary — Alpine meadows in full bloom, all cable cars operating, hiking trails open, lake swimming. Families with children find Switzerland near-perfect in July.

Georgia is excellent in July — warm in Tbilisi (28–32°C), mild in Kazbegi (18–22°C), and the value remains exceptional. One of the best summer options for UAE families on a budget.

Scandinavia (Norway’s fjords, Sweden, Denmark) — long daylight hours (nearly 24-hour daylight in northern Norway), green landscapes, and cooler temperatures (15–22°C) make July ideal.

The Maasai Mara Migration begins in Kenya in late July — the finest wildlife spectacle on earth. Book safari camps 6–9 months ahead for July–October.

August: Peak Summer Travel — Busiest Month from UAE

Top destinations: Same as July, plus East coast Maldives (Koh Samui, Thailand), East Africa

August is the busiest travel month from the UAE. Every popular summer destination — London, Paris, Tuscany, Zurich, Santorini — is at capacity. Prices are at annual peaks.

August travel requires:

  • Booking flights and hotels by February–March for popular European summer destinations
  • Accepting premium pricing at virtually all summer-peak destinations
  • Building queuing time into itinerary planning (major attractions are very busy)

Hidden gem for August: East coast Sri Lanka (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) is in its dry season while the west coast has monsoon — beautiful beaches, excellent surf at Arugam Bay, and far fewer tourists than Thailand or Bali.

Maasai Mara Great Migration peaks in August — river crossings are most frequent. The finest month for Kenya safari.

September: The Best Month Nobody Talks About

Top destinations: Mediterranean Europe, Maldives, Seychelles, Sri Lanka (south coast), Japan (autumn begins)

September is the most underrated travel month from the UAE. Summer crowds clear from European destinations after the first week of September. Temperatures remain warm (22–28°C in the Mediterranean). Hotel prices drop 20–30% from August peaks. Schools have returned in Europe, meaning family attractions are quieter.

Santorini in September is the closest you get to Santorini without the crowds — warm, clear, golden light, and a fraction of the July–August visitor numbers.

Italy in September — the harvest season in Tuscany, the grape harvest (vendemmia) begins in Chianti, and the summer heat softens to perfect outdoor temperatures.

The Maldives weather improves through September as the southwest monsoon weakens — some of the best value of the year with improving conditions.

UAE school context: Schools return late August / early September. September is a normal school month — mid-week travel works well for non-school-holiday dependent travellers.

October: Autumn Colour and Indian Ocean Returns

Top destinations: Japan (autumn foliage), Maldives (improving weather), Turkey, Morocco, Portugal, Scotland

October brings Japan’s second great seasonal spectacle — maple trees turning vivid red, orange and gold across temple gardens and mountain forests. Less crowded than cherry blossom season, equally beautiful.

UAE autumn school break typically falls in mid-October (1 week). Popular destinations for the October break include Georgia, Turkey, and Morocco.

Maldives dry season begins to return in October — water clarity improving, seas calming, and prices still at low-season rates for much of the month.

Morocco (Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara) is ideal in October — hot summer temperatures have passed (25–30°C), no crowds, and the Sahara is accessible.

Portugal and Spain in October are excellent — warm, uncrowded, and the autumn light is extraordinary for photographers.

November: Indian Ocean Peak Returns — Best Overall Travel Month

Top destinations: Maldives, Seychelles, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kenya (Maasai Mara), Europe (city breaks)

November marks the return of the Indian Ocean dry season — and the beginning of the finest travel window of the year for beach and wildlife destinations.

Maldives November — clear skies, calm seas, excellent visibility, and prices beginning to climb toward December peak but not yet at maximum. An excellent balance of conditions and value.

Thailand’s Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) returns to peak conditions in November — the southwest monsoon has passed, seas are calm, and the water is at its clearest.

Sri Lanka’s south and west coasts enter dry season in November — Galle, Mirissa, and the beach belt from Colombo south are excellent.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara still has good wildlife in November — predators remain active, crowds are lower than August–October.

European city breaks (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague) in November are excellent for culturally curious UAE travellers — low crowds at major museums and attractions, Christmas decorations going up by late November, and hotel prices well below summer.

December: Peak Season — Indian Ocean, Christmas, New Year

Top destinations: Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, UK (Christmas), Europe (Christmas markets), Japan, New Zealand/Australia

December is the UAE’s most expensive travel month — peak Indian Ocean season combines with Christmas school holidays and New Year travel to create maximum demand on every route.

Book December travel by June–August at the latest for popular Indian Ocean destinations. Maldives overwater villas for Christmas week and New Year sell out 9–12 months ahead.

Christmas in London is one of the world’s great December experiences — the Regent Street lights, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, carol services at Westminster Abbey, and New Year’s Eve fireworks over the Thames. Book London hotels for Christmas week by March–April.

European Christmas markets (Vienna, Zurich, Strasbourg, Bruges) run November–December and are an excellent UAE winter escape with a genuinely festive atmosphere.

Japan in December — Tokyo and Kyoto’s Christmas illuminations, the begin of ski season, and far fewer foreign tourists than spring create an excellent window for first-time Japan visitors.
